The Grand Travel and Food Quiz ExtravaganzaDouble Storey press release
Venue: Centre for the Book
The Grand Travel and Food Quiz Extravaganza, with food, wine and travel prizes galore! Fab Food and Wine. Wild Contestants. Magnificent Quizmasters. In association with the Cape Argus.
The Centre for the Book is the venue for Cape Town's first "Grand Travel and Food Quiz Extravaganza". The occasion starts with a welcoming drink of Amarula Cream to warm the guests as they settle down to an evening of lucky-draw prizes, delicious eats, lots of wine and more prizes. Marianne Thamm, award-winning journalist, author and sometime standup comedian, will take on the role of quizmaster, pitting the Silly Travel Writers team against the Serious Travel Writers team. The Sillies are Nicholas Daly of A Wanderer in Og fame together with Mr Twelve Rows Back - Tom Eaton. Don Pinnock, whose latest book, Love Letters to Africa, has recently appeared on the shelves, and Justin Fox, author of With One Hand Waving, make up the Serious team. David Bristow is a late entrant to the Serious team, called in to rescue his colleagues. The second half of the evening is given over to the Foodie Quiz, with bon vivant and restaurateur extraordinaire Michael Olivier quizzing the audience as to what are pitjie-tameletjies and who called biltong Bum Strips (all answers to be found in Michael's ravishing new book, Michael Olivier: A Restaurateur Remembers). Book early, seats are going fast and we can only accommodate 100
guests. R100 will provide you with a wonderful warm evening of fun,
food, wine and entrancing facts around travel and food.
