By now you should have your tickets for Savanna Up The Creek 2005 - South Africa's funkiest festival of good tunes mixed with laughter and fresh-air fun, fun, fun. The unique weekend event, which runs from Friday February 4th until Sunday February 6th, kicks off the nation's music year in arguably the most splendid setting this side of the equator - the shores of the lazy Breede River outside Swellendam in the Overberg.

For those ready to roll (and rock), here's a reminder of where to go and what to bring:

Where to go - From Cape Town, take the N2 out of town and drive past Somerset West, over the mountain and keep going for about two hours until just before (approximately 8 km before) Swellendam at the MALGAS INFANTA turn-off (turn right). Take the dirt road and keep going for 2,1 km until you reach another sign indicating the NAPKYSMOND turnoff. Turn left at this point and travel a further 13,1km until you see the UP THE CREEK sign. Turn left here and enter the SAVANNA UP THE CREEK entrance. If you're coming from the east, go past Swellendam and look for the MALGAS INFANTA turn-off to your left.

What to bring - Pack the tent (and pegs), sleeping gear, swimming stuff, some chill-out clothing, sunblock, a towel, and a jersey for when the sun goes down. Bring your camera to capture the many moments, but no video or sound recorders. If you want to remember the music, buy the CDs and merchandise, which will be on sale.

By all means bring your grub, but for a really relaxed time, make use of the fabulous variety of food and beverage stalls geared to maintaining your energy levels and liquid levels.

If you still don't know what the Savanna Up The Creek Festival is after all these years, know this: for just R390 you can enjoy 28 acts from 6.30 pm on the Friday until 3 pm on the Sunday, including a specially-commissioned fashion show designed around Savanna branding material.

And who'll be there? Arno and New Porn, Prime Circle, Plush, Freshly Ground, Valiant Swart, Wonderboom, Breakfast Included, Boulevard Blues and Delta Blue. There's also Azania, The Rudimentals, Hog Hoggidy Hog, Fokofpolisiekar, Skanky Corp, 7th Son, Verity, Flat Stanley, Bed On Bricks, Goldfish, Muse SQ and Dan Patlansky. Between the bands the entertainment continues with DJ Rude Larry, Master of Ceremonies, Cokey Falkow, and those crazy comics Twakkie and Corne in The Most Amazing Show.

The Savanna Up The Creek Festival is the ideal weekend away to recover from the silly season and get back into the groove for the rest of 2005. It's a getaway for grown-ups where an eclectic mix of music lovers can harmonise with the great outdoors.
