OppiKoppi Wired

Press release

Saturday the 6th of August- Monday the 8th of August
Brought to you by Levi’s®

Stages:

With the OppiKoppi festival once again firmly rooted in its bushveld setting over the last two years, it has become possible for the organisers to start erecting more permanent fixtures.

This process was started in 2004 with the erection of two stages at the foot of the two koppies on the farm. In 2005 the process will be taken another step further with the erection of another new permanent structure for, what was known to regular OppiKoppi attendees, as the 206 stage.

This will result in a total of 4 permanent structures being available for programming in 2005. With the addition of the half a stage for comedy and theatre this should once again result in a jam packed three days of musical mayhem. In addition the new structures will also allow OppiKoppi to move and twist genres within the festival itself.

The most striking change would be the move of almost all jazzy, bluesy, traditional and laid back tunes from the original OppiKoppi stage to the newly erected stage on the second koppie, The Sipho Gumede Stage. The original OppiKoppi bar and wooden stages will play host almost exclusively to singer songwriter sets as well as acoustic sessions, in a decidedly relaxed atmosphere.

It is hoped that these changes will allow the organisers to program even more diverse content in years to come. Additionally it creates vastly different areas within the festival grounds, with the two bottom stages still firing on all party cylinders on the other end of the grounds.

First bands:

The fact that the stages now lend themselves even more comprehensively to a diverse array of tunes suite the OppiKoppi festival like a glove. This will be reflected in a line-up catering for elements of tunes from all over the South African music landscape.

This will include rock, punk, metal, traditional, jazz, acoustic, folk, blues, hip-hop, kwaito, house, drum ’n bass, afro pop and genres even the programmers and finding difficulty to memorise. The names of the artists confirmed are being added on a daily basis on the website.
