Monday - 11 April

1-2pm: Sisyphus's Book Deal
A panel debate the state and future of the South African publishing industry, as we ask: When will SA publishing take off?

2pm: Zapiro exhibition launch
One of the country's greatest cartoonists, Jonathan Shapiro, opens an exhibition of his cartoons about Nelson Mandela and talks about his upcoming book of Mandela cartoons!
6:30pm: Book Fair opening reception
An invitation-only event, to be opened by the Vice-Chancellor of UCT, Prof. Njabulo Ndebele.

1-2pm: Distinguished author readings
Readings by Ingrid de Kok of her poetry, and by Mike Nicol of a new work-in-progress.
' Ingrid de Kok is author of several published collections of poetry, as well as co-compiler and editor of Spring Is Rebellious and City in Words: Poems on Cape Town. Her poetry has been included in 14 South African anthologies and 11 international anthologies, and her work has also appeared in Italian, Japanese, French, and Dutch translation and has regularly been featured in a variety of literary journals, both in South Africa and abroad.
' Mike Nicol is the author of four novels (the last of which was The Ibis Tapestry), three books of non-fiction, including A Good-Looking Corpse, and two volumes of poetry. He also works as a journalist contributing to various South African and international publications.
2-3pm: How do we create a culture of reading in a multi-lingual country?
An author, librarian and publisher debate this significant problem facing reading in South Africa.

11am - 1pm: Free Creative Writing Workshop
Ron Irwin guides you through the process of creative writing and gives you the chance to develop a sample of your writing during the workshop. Book is essential - numbers are very limited.
1-2pm: Reading as Rehabilitation
Readucate's Edna Freinkel speaks about their work teaching literacy as rehabilitation in SA prisons.
2pm: Food as Meditation - the 'Quiet Food' cookbook
Author Louis van Loon reveals the ideas behind his unique Buddhist cookbook 'Quiet Food': from the health benefits of vegetarian eating, to the magic of preparing and eating food slowly and contemplatively - making ordinary cooking into something exquisite and special.
