Three

Helen Janse van Rensburg

1. She

She's there,
between them
in front
pleasure
behind the line.

She's there,
on raised
blazing heels
on tabletops
and glares.

She's there,
in her eyes
and theirs
in honey
in milk.

She's there,
somewhere inside
somewhere outside
somewhere.

She's there,
to crouch
to bend
to please
to stab.

She's there,
there
is nowhere
else to go.

2. He

A mouth
      of water
dressed in sun;

eyes
      dusted
marked in sky;

touches
      light pepper
mint and softened burn.

He

words
      of taut steel
and hardened blood;

hair
      pure light;
back
      rich mud.
He

      breathes
my night
my day.

I eat him
now
      with spice and wine;

I drink him
now
      As God drinks time;

I am him, I am him.

But is he me or is he mine?

3. Us

There are forests
where our bodies meet.
