  • 7th Jomba! Contemporary Dance Experience

    Dates: 19-29 August 2004
    Principal venue: Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

    A dynamic 10-day presentation of the finest in South African contemporary dance, plus three or four international dance companies. Jomba! also includes workshops, masterclasses, a schools programme, a choreographers' forum, and a fringe programme for work by developing choreographers.

  • 6th Awesome Africa Music Festival

    Dates: 18-26 September 2004
    Venues: Albert Park and other venues.

    The Centre for Creative Arts is a co-ordinating partner in this major music event featuring artists from around the world, with a particular focus on Africa. Celebrating cultural diversity through music and the arts, the festival includes workshops, community concerts, collaborations between musicians, and a music symposium.

  • 8th Poetry Africa

    Dates: 18-23 October 2004
    Principal venue: Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

    7-day international festival of poets. 25-30 poets representing approximately 16 countries present and perform nightly at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

    Numerous other activities include seminars and workshops, interactive exchanges in tertiary institutions and schools, performance opportunities for amateur poets, music and poetry, poetry competitions, slam poetry, poetry in prison, poetry with street children, other special events and satellite activities in other parts of South Africa.

  • 8th Time of the Writer

    Dates: 4-9 April 2005
    Principal venue: Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

    6-day international festival of writers, presented in association with the French Institute of South Africa. 16 writers read, discuss and debate their work nightly at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

    Day activities take place at tertiary institutions and other venues, including a workshop for educators, workshops in rural areas, book-launches, short-story competitions and wide-reaching school visits designed to stimulate a culture of reading and writing.

  • 26th Durban International Film Festival

    Dates: Mid-year 2005, dates to be determined.

    The festival celebrates its 26th anniversary with over 200 screenings of top films from around the world, including special reflections on South Africa and Africa. Most of the films are première showings in this country. The festival also offers seminars and workshops featuring local and international filmmakers. The programme includes screenings in township areas where cinemas are non-existent. The festival has a competition; entry is free and open until February 2005.
