Goal and purpose of the march:

To promote and create awareness of South African Sign Language (SASL) as:

The cornerstone of Deaf Education

A basic human right of all deaf people.

To demand that:

  • SASL be recognised and implemented as an official language in the education of deaf learners from Grade R to Grade 12/N3
  • SASL be fully implemented as the official medium of instruction for all deaf learners in schools for the deaf
  • All teachers of the Deaf receive official in-service training in SASL
  • The Departments of Education accept responsibility for the development of learning materials for SASL.
