Alan Finlay
was born in 1971 in Johannesburg. From 1994 to 1999 he published the small literary journal Bleksem, and in 2000 founded the online literary magazine donga, which he edited with Paul Wessels. He has published short collections of poems in various formats: Burning Aloes (Dye Hard Press, 1994); No Free Sleeping (with Donald Parenzee and Vonani Bila - Botsotso Publishers, 1998) and The Red Laughter Of Guns In Green Summer Rain (chainpoems with Phillip Zhuwao - Dye Hard Press, 2002). He recently co-edited glass jars among trees, a collection of South African poetry and prose (Jacana, 2003). Alan lives in Johannesburg with his partner and two sons, and edits the poetry journal New Coin (published by the Institute for the Study of English in Africa, Rhodes University). He works as a research consultant in the development and media sectors.
