International jazz artists put the groove into Father's Day at Winchester Mansions

Press release

Jazz lovers can feast their senses this Father’s Day with the sultry, smooth rhythms of famous jazz artists Deborah Tanguy and Gary Wittner as they perform with local legends Basil Moses and Maurice Gawronsky at Winchester Mansions on Sunday, 18 June.

Parisian jazz vocal ace, spectacular scat singer and improvising artist Deborah Tanguy will have guests rocking away on Father’s Day with her fresh, funky and in-the-pocket flavour of sophisticated, smoky jazz.

Striking chords with Deborah and daddies is New York-based cutting-edge guitarist, recording artist, author and teacher Gary Wittner, who comes to Cape Town this June as a guest lecturer and performer at the University of Cape Town.

Young singing sensation Deborah Tanguy is among the finest jazz vocalists on the French and wider European scene, fresh from a recording with the world-renowned Netherlands Metropole Jazz Orchestra and due to record her second solo record later this year in Paris.

Gary Wittner, who draws inspiration from his all-time idol Thelonius Monk – one of the century’s greatest American jazz composers, has recorded two CDs under his own name and has featured alongside stellar companions Christian McBride, Reggie Workman, Eddie Davis and Clark Terry.

The lavish, weekly jazz brunch buffet in the hotel’s signature restaurant Harveys at the Mansions – with its majestic views over the Atlantic Ocean – or (weather permitting) in the famous Tuscan-style courtyard has become a Sunday institution in Cape Town. Savour the scrumptious delicacies of this renowned seaside jazz brunch at Sea Point’s leading beachfront boutique hotel. The mouth-watering buffet includes culinary delights, from traditional breakfast delicacies and a salad bar to a lavish hot carvery and unashamedly decadent desserts.

This laid-back brunch is held every Sunday from 11:00-14:00 and costs R165 per person, inclusive of a glass of bubbly, a special surprise gift for each father on arrival and a complimentary Sunday newspaper per table. To book your table contact tel (021) 434 2351 or send an email to harveys@winchester.co.za.
